Released in 2009 with an edition size of 1300 samples and sculpted by Randy Bowen (and Troy McDevitt for pants), the statue of the Red Hulk is essentially based on the sculpt of the well known Hulk Green Retro, from which it differs in the base, the face, the position of the right hand and, of course, the coloring. This unusual character (also known as Rulk) was introduced in 2008, and is a far more brutal version of the classic Green Goliath of Marvel, in which the superhuman strength overlaps a clear violent lucidity and a real murderess instinct. The statue exhibits a perfect frontal position that gives a great emphasis on the huge muscles of the character on chest, abdomen, arms and legs. As in the tables of Comics, the figure is strongly characterized by the presence of numerous swollen veins scattered on the body and a wicked and angry expression, here made in a masterly way through gritted teeth, a ruffled and upturned hair and two small yellow eyes that sprout up from the furrowed eyebrows. The chromatic contrast is provided by the black color on ripped jeans, hair and nails with the bright background red (with darker shades just sketched to emphasize the lines of demarcation of muscles) and a slightly purplish tone used to highlight the veins on neck and arms. The hands (one with a tight fist and the other open in a sort of vise) are very well finished, as well as the irregular cuffs of jeans at the waist and the knees and the monstrous swelling of the back muscles, at triceps and deltoids. The base has a rather irregular shape with a rounded edge: it represents a sort of metallic platform with shreds of netting, covered with sand. At the foot of the hero it is possible to place a big submachine gun, provided as an additional decorative element, although separated from the rest of the whole. Due to the unsettling charm of this brutal anti-hero, the high level of sculpt and its undeniable aesthetic impact, the Red Hulk Statue is a very sought-after piece, which perfectly portrays the main traits of the Comics' character and can boast significant quotations on the collectors' market. In my opinion, it is simply the best 1:6 statue of the Red Hulk currently available and, in general, an amazing collectible for all fans.
